Arwen foaled last night.

It was kind of scary, but it ended up going smoothly. Mostly I just didn’t know what to expect. It took a long time.

First a little hoof came out and it stayed like that for twenty minutes or so. I thought things might be stuck so I pulled on it but that didn’t seem to help and Arwen didn’t like it, so I left her alone. She would lie down and then stand up and walk around, then lie down again. She never seemed like she was in a lot of pain. Then the head came out, then all of a sudden the whole baby was out. I thought it was dead for a second but then it started moving and trying to get up. And after a while it could walk. It’s amazing.

They both seem healthy and happy today. We’ve named the foal “Grace.” That was Mom’s idea.

I wish Dad could’ve seen it.
